On the TOFU/MOFU/BOFU tags
you were right. I re-screened all 50 prompts by hand. Six prompts tagged BOFU are pure how-to with no vendor intent ("How can I improve payment error management…", "How can treasurers optimize cross-border payment workflows…"). Five prompts tagged MOFU are unambiguous vendor-selection ("What tools are available for payment reconciliation…", "What features should I look for in an automated payout platform…", "What are key factors to evaluate when comparing bulk payment solutions…"). Net: 21 genuinely commercial, of which 12 are hard vendor-seeking.
2. The three findings that decide the strategy
2.1 smartbulkpayments.com is not in the index for any of this
ownDomainPageCount = 0 across all three lineages - 254 queries (Jul), 147 queries (Jul), 71 queries (Jun). Not cited, not even surfaced in a search call. That is 3,479 source occurrences without a single one of yours.
2.2 OpenAI does not read the listicle ecosystem - at all
Of the 35 most-cited pages in the Jul-30 BOFU set, OpenAI cited zero. Of the 27 cross-provider consensus pages, OpenAI appears in zero.
OpenAI's entire cited footprint in this set is 17 pages, all regulatory: FinCEN, OFAC/Treasury, PCI SSC, BIS.
The June control shows why. OpenAI's actual search strings for "What factors should businesses consider when choosing between different payment service providers for mass payouts?" were:
PCI Security Standards Council PCI DSS v4.0 overview service providers obligations
OFAC sanctions screening requirements payments processors payouts obligations
PSD2 payment institution license vs electronic money institution payouts EU guidance
agent of payee exemption money transmitter state law overview 50 state marketplace
Adyen MarketPay payouts documentation
Wise supported payout currencies and routes list
And for contractor payment tools:
site:remote.com contractors·site:stripe.com/connect·site:rippling.com·site:wise.com·site:help.bill.com·site:payoneer.com
OpenAI picks candidate vendors from parametric memory, then verifies each one against that vendor's own documentation and against primary regulation. It never asks "who are the best payout platforms" and reads a listicle. Anthropic and Gemini do exactly that.
OpenAI also fans out far harder - 15–39 sources per query vs 9–10 for Anthropic/Grok - and cites almost none of it.
2.3 Reddit and LinkedIn are a Grok/Perplexity channel, not an OpenAI/Anthropic/Gemini one
Across 254 BOFU queries:
| Surfaced | Cited | Cited by OpenAI / Anthropic / Gemini | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 75 pages | 4 | 1 (shared w/ Perplexity) | |
| 13 pages | 12 | 0 | |
| YouTube | 8 pages | 8 | 1 (shared w/ Perplexity) |
| Quora / Medium | 4 pages | 2 | 1 |
13 of the 23 cited social pages are Grok-only. On the June control it is 7 cited social pages out of 1,036.
Review sites are worse: 3 pages total across G2, Capterra, TrustRadius, Gartner, GetApp, Trustpilot, Product Hunt combined. Trade press is worse still: 5 pages total across PYMNTS, Finextra, The Paypers, Forbes, TechCrunch, CoinDesk, Cointelegraph, American Banker, FinTech Futures, CFO.
3. The target source lists
S1 - Answer-Owners (19 pages) · fe32bb78
Cited by ≥3 providers, ≥2 times, on the hardest 147 vendor-selection queries. This is the map of who currently is the answer. Every one of these names competitors and none names you.

Neutral, adjacent or agency publishers that rank but do not compete with you on mass payouts. This is your outreach list.
Tier A - crypto-payout-relevant, high citation share, single-page domains (easiest wins):
thenextweb.com- "Why global businesses are moving to crypto mass payouts" - 4 citations, all 4 providers, 100% citation sharepaymentsjournal.com- "Why Crypto Will Be the New Standard for Global Payouts" - 3 citations, Anthropic + Gemini + Perplexity, 100% sharebcbgroup.com- "Crypto payment gateway: how to choose the best solution" - 3 citations, 100% shareifxpayments.com- "Bulk payment solution: How to choose the right one" - 3 citations, 100% sharey.uno- "How to choose a payout provider" - 3 citations, Gemini, 100% share
Tier B - reconciliation & AP listicles that accept vendor submissions:

S3 - Competitor-owned answer real estate (37 pages) · d78ed000
tipalti, trolley, routable, usedots, connectpay, payquicker, thunes, highradius, moderntreasury, finix, netsuite, dwolla, checkout, pega, rillion, airwallex, payoro. Do not run outreach at these. They are the content you have to displace, and they are the template for what you publish yourself. Note the shape: every one is a /learning-center/, /resources/learn/, or /blog/ explainer - not a product page.
S4 - OpenAI's lane (18 pages) · fc4742e8
FinCEN (7), PCI SSC (7), OFAC/Treasury (3), BIS (1). 17 of 18 carry ?utm_source=openai. These are unwinnable as placements - you cannot get on fincen.gov. Their value is as a content spec: they tell you exactly which regulatory anchors OpenAI wants a payout provider's answer grounded in.
S5 - Social/UGC reality check (23 pages) · 16d357ef
Kept as the evidence file for the "no Reddit campaign" decision. Note the two Reddit threads that were cited are the interesting ones - r/Freelancers "Anyone switched off Stripe or Tipalti for payouts?" and r/smallbusiness "Best crypto payment gateway for a small business". Both Grok-only.
4. Recommended strategy
Do not run a Reddit campaign. Do not run a LinkedIn campaign.
For your three priority providers combined they produced 1 citation across 254 BOFU queries. A Reddit programme buys you Grok and some Perplexity. If Grok matters later, revisit; today it is a rounding error against your stated priorities.
Do not run a fintech PR campaign either.
PYMNTS, Finextra, The Paypers, CoinDesk, Cointelegraph, American Banker combined = 5 surfaced pages, and they are not the pages that get cited. Trade press is read by humans, not by these models, for these questions.
Split the strategy by provider. They are not the same problem.
External placement will not move it. Its retrieval pattern is site:vendor.com verification plus primary regulation. Nothing you place on optimus.tech changes that.
These two live almost entirely on S1/S2/S3. Targeted outreach and out-publishing move the needle directly.
OpenAI - the three moves
- Fix entity resolution first. Your site audit scores this 2/10 - five competing identities (3P Smart LTD / Smart Bulk Payments / BulkPayments / Trade Venezuela USDT / legacy Pilsenga), no About page,
Organization.namedisagreeing withWebSite.name, and Pilsenga terms still live. OpenAI cannot put you in the candidate set if it cannot resolve who you are. This is the single highest-ROI action in the whole programme and it is cleanup, not engineering. - Build the pages OpenAI's verification queries would hit. It searched
Wise supported payout currencies and routes listandAdyen MarketPay payouts documentation. You need the smartbulkpayments.com equivalents: a supported-currencies-and-corridors page, a public API/payout docs page, a settlement-and-timing page, a fees page withOffer/PriceSpecificationschema. Factual, tabular, crawlable, no marketing prose. - Ground your compliance pages in S4's exact anchors - FinCEN MSB registration, OFAC screening obligations, PCI DSS v4.0 service-provider scope, PSD2 PI vs EMI. Cite them explicitly. That is the vocabulary OpenAI is retrieving. Handle the EEA/UK reverse-solicitation framing carefully here - describe the regulatory landscape, do not market into it.
Anthropic + Gemini - the two plays
- Targeted listicle outreach - ~15 emails, not "every listicle out there". Go at S2 Tier A + Tier B only. The Tier A pages are single-article domains with 100% citation share: when the model surfaces them, it cites them every time. Getting added to
thenextweb.com's crypto-mass-payouts piece orbcbgroup.com's gateway-selection guide is worth more than 50 generic directory listings. Blanket outreach to S3 (Tipalti, Trolley, Routable, Dots) is wasted effort - they sell against you. - Out-publish, don't just get listed. The pages that win are explainer/learning-centre content, not product pages. You have one asset none of them have: per-recipient blockchain transaction hashes as proof of payment. Nothing in the 129-page corpus covers hash-level payout traceability, and "How can I ensure traceability for each payment in a mass payout operation?" is already a live prompt where a competitor (Radom) picked up a citation. Publish the definitive piece on payout traceability, exception handling and reconciliation for crypto mass payouts. It is uncontested ground.
Sequencing
| Weeks | Action | Moves | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0–2 | Entity consolidation, About page, Organization/Service/FAQ schema, purge Pilsenga, curate llms.txt | All three, unblocks everything |
| 2 | 2–6 | Publish factual doc-set: corridors, API docs, settlement times, fees, compliance grounded in S4 anchors | OpenAI |
| 3 | 4–8 | Outreach to S2 Tier A (5 pages) then Tier B (~12) | Anthropic, Gemini |
| 4 | 6–12 | Traceability/reconciliation flagship content, modelled on S3's format | Anthropic, Gemini, then OpenAI once indexed |
